About Atelier Medida
Atelier Medida began with a bag placed on a shelf in the Italian shoe store where Wanda was working at the time.
It sold the same day. What followed was repetition.
During the first year, Wanda developed, cut and sewed every bag herself. More than one hundred pieces were made during that period. Many never left the studio.
They were part of learning the object.
Proportion, construction, leather, tension, balance. Making something, noticing what was wrong, taking it apart and doing it again.
Over time, Atelier Medida evolved, and so did its production. What remained unchanged was the authorship behind each piece, from material selection and development to proportion, construction and the final object.
Measure
The name Medida comes from the Spanish word for measure. Measure is not simply a question of dimensions. It is a way of deciding how much is enough.
How much material should be used.
How much detail an object needs.
How many pieces should exist.
Atelier Medida does not begin with a desired quantity and search for material to fulfil it. It begins with the material.
An exceptional hide may allow for one bag. Another may allow for nine. Others make a larger edition possible.
The Specimen System
The material sets the limit.
From this approach, three classifications emerged.
Unique Specimens exist only once.
Rare Specimens are produced in exceptionally small, individually numbered editions determined by the available material.
Limited Editions allow for larger series while remaining finite.
Once a material is exhausted, the edition closes. There is no second run created to reproduce scarcity. The piece enters the Atelier Medida Archive.
Material
Atelier Medida works predominantly with carefully sourced leather, including deadstock and materials available only in limited quantities.
Their limitation is not something to overcome. It becomes part of the design.
Because sometimes the answer to how many should exist? is already contained within the material itself.
Atelier Medida exists at the intersection of rarity, material excellence, and measured design.
